Feasibility interoperable ticketing system Algiers

Transurb provides technical assistance for the project of interoperable ticketing system carried out by the Organisational Authority of Urban Transport in Algiers (AOTU-A).

Context

The Organisational Authority of Urban Transport in Algiers (AOTU-A) intends to have one single ticket, which will allow the population to freely use different modes of public transport. The interoperable ticketing system will be put in place in Algiers’ public transport network for mid-2019 and subsequently at a national level.

The traveller may choose either the metro, tram, bus, train or aerial tram through a comprehensive support service fully integrating intramodality. The aim is to have a coherent experience and a homogeneous public transport network.

The apparatus will enable better mobility for urban population thanks to a single support, able to host —among other things— common tariffs, facilitating the understanding of the system, and encouraging the use of integrated transport services.

Transurb Mission

The technical assistance in collaboration with Belgian National Railway Company (SNCB) is carried out in the following phases:

  1. Situation analysis to identify the necessary interfaces, the possible needs in terms of adaptations and evolution, and the possibility to sustain certain components of the actual system
  2. Establish a service project: digitalisation of the ticketing system complemented by a quality standard
  3. Technical project: feasibility study, action plan, general technical principles, summary of the reference document
  4. Generalisation of the procedure to a national level
