Transurb assists the European Union Agency for Railways in the update of ETCS Driver’s handbook

The European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) has chosen Transurb to update the ETCS Driver’s Handbook according to the latest Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs). This collaboration will also introduce a practical state-of-the-art ETCS DMI Studio, useful to integrate or adapt specific screenshots to the driver manual.

Transurb’s unique combination of ETCS expertise with Technirail and cutting-edge technology with Simulation makes it the ideal partner to obtain a thorough and reliable reference for driving regulations.

Agile change request management

The first step of the project consists of the extraction of requirements from various documents, translating them into change requests, and providing ERA with a comprehensive project and quality management plan. Then, by means of an advanced Change Request Management Tool, an updated traceability matrix is created, which includes all new clauses related to new TSIs, as well as any requirement impacting the handbook.

In order to translate ERA’s requirements and obtain a structured, well-documented deliverable, Transurb approaches this project with the flexibility and responsiveness of PRINCE2 Agile project management methodology; each project deliverable is implemented in an iterative, collaborative, and flexible manner.

ETCS DMI Studio

To empower ERA with future modifications, Transurb is developing a tool from its advanced simulation software capable of capturing screenshots from the Driver-Machine Interface (DMI). These screenshots will serve as precise illustrations, tailored to meet specific needs and improve the handbook’s comprehensiveness. Additionally, chronograms and videos will be included when necessary to further enrich the content.

A trusted partnership

Transurb is honoured to lead this impactful project, which will be widely used by all railway stakeholders across Europe and other non-European countries implementing ETCS. We extend our gratitude to ERA for their trust and commitment!
