ERTMS Trackside Technical Assistance for ERA

Transurb has been appointed by European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) to provide technical assistance in the approval of trackside equipment containing ERTMS. This assignment will be carried out under a framework agreement with two other reputable firms.

Context

ERA, located in Valenciennes/Lille, is a specialised agency of the European Union with specific regulatory tasks in the railway sector. The 4th Railway Package is a set of legislative texts designed by ERA to complete the single market for rail services (Single European Railway Area).

The Agency has the mission to revitalise the rail sector and make it more efficient and therefore competitive vis-à-vis other modes of transport. Furthermore, reinforce safety and interoperability of European railways and thus adding a strong new momentum towards the shared vision of a truly integrated, competitive European railway area.

ERA sought technical support for the activities linked to ERTMS trackside equipment approval in compliance with the relevant Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI).

Transurb Mission

Transurb was awarded the contract thanks to its extensive experience in the technical assistance in ERTMS assessment.

The different services requested will depend on the number of approval requests received by the Agency, mainly:

  • Check of completeness of application file, “from concept to operation” process
  • Assessment of issues related to interoperability
  • Technical support in meetings
