Framework contract for Interoperability expert for railway signalling projects in Denmark

Transurb is assisting Banedanmark on interoperability, safety (RAMS/CSM) and railway systems approval (mostly CCS) issues regarding railway signalling and ERTMS trackside & onboard systems.

CONTEXT

PGIL is involved in a consortium in a 12-year consultancy contract with Banedanmark, the Danish Infrastructure Manager, to assist with an integrated team on the deployment of Banedanmark’s Signalling Programme. This programme covers the implementation of both signalling infrastructure and onboard systems for the national railway network excluding private and some local lines, setting ERTMS level 2 as the national signalling standard.

Furthermore, the Baseline 3 MR1 (3.4.0) specifications are implemented on Danish trackside ETCS equipment. This requires a conceptual rethinking of the operational concept and the usage of technical systems for ERTMS implementation. The Signalling programme is using GPRS for ETCS communication and Online Key management for both infrastructure and onboard systems. The Signalling programme also includes the procurement & commissioning of the ERTMS onboard systems for state and private railway traffic operators, in baseline 3. The total length of lines to be migrated to ERTMS level 2 is approx. 2000 km. Copenhagen commuter-system (S-bane) is converted to CBTC in the same programme.

The Signalling Programme started around 2008 and is expected to be fully implemented by 2030.

TRANSURB MISSION

The senior expert is part of the integrated team as interoperability manager and is assisting Banedanmark on interoperability, safety (RAMS/CSM) and railway systems approval (mostly CCS) issues regarding railway signalling and ERTMS trackside & onboard systems.

More specifically, as part of the team, he is currently assisting in preparing a last roll-out with the second West reference release, and the upgrade of the third reference release of all previously commissioned lines in North Jylland. In the East, the deployment of the first reference release (updated) is extended to the South towards Næstved and further. For the Onboard projects, especially the formal application (4th Railway Package and 2018/545) of the ESC process and its checks, full attention is dedicated to these several combinations of Type of Line with the Arriva, DSB, Nordjyske and Lokaltog ETCS L2 3.4.0 fleets, whereby the yellow fleet is particularly challenging.
